Welcome to GBaijnauth's Educ 552 blog. I normally use this site as an additional resource to my school (hosted) website, but for the time frame of this class. I will refrain from posting my classroom material in order to post material for Educ 552.  I am the new journalism adviser at GHS and we are working this year to build a web prescence for our publications. I look forward to learning the various programs from this class (podcasts; iMovie, etc).

Example of project:
The character of Bartholmew McGraw in Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a young man who showed that even though he though he was a hunter he really did not know much about GPS systems. It is important to look at the growth of his character through the book. When the boat crashed into the iceberg, the boys and girls were so excited that their teacher Mr. Jack Johnson was no longer the stern disciplinarian. They were excited that have Miss Emma Schuster in charge of their hunting expeditions and their hikes back to civilization. And so on for  a few more sentences.
In “Boys will be Boys” in the June issue of South Atlantic Quarterly, James Baker was able to introduce to a modern day hero who could not find his way out of a 15 foot room.  Keep going for 5 more sentences about the article.
The challenge of finding a current event to tie in with a book that was written in the 1930’s is not a simple task. …......

English 10 CP - Modest Proposal Link

Hello Again.
Yesterday we discussed J. Swift's Modest Proposal and some asked me to bring in my copy of it. In an effort to save time and wear and tear on my anthology. :-) I will include a link so you can read it at your leisure.  When you finish reading it, feel free to post a comment. What do you think?

Huckleberry Finn - English 10 CP - Opening Discussion

Hello students

“[Mark Twain] is surprisingly relevant right now. When you look at how much he wrote and the breadth of the subjects he wrote about, you know that if he were alive today, he would totally be a blogger.”
— Rebecca Fitting, an owner of the Greenlight Bookstore in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, quoted in the 2010 article “Mark Twain’s Autobiography Flying Off the Shelves.”

Just wanted to share a few things with you that will go with our reading of Huck Finn. We will be discussing the new edition that is removing some of the language and some of the news coverage it has received.  Here are some of the resources we will use.
